As crazy as it sounds, I'm grateful for the gift of an underperforming pancreas. Living with a chronic condition like diabetes has motivated me to push myself further, to test and broaden my mental and physical limits, and to truly appreciate the joy of rising above any adversity or obstacles that I confront in this life. Without this condition, I doubt I would have ever contemplated running (and completing) the Leadville 100 trail run, or finished four Ironman races.
As a Triabetes Captain in 2011-12, I hope to engage and inspire other diabetics in Northeastern Ohio to take a more positive, healthy and active approach to managing their diabetes. It will be a year where new relationships in the region will be forged, big goals will be set and bigger dreams imagined, and the seemingly insurmountable surmounted. In other words, 2011-12 will be a lot of fun!
